Family Mulock

Family Mulock

The name Mulock has been known in Zierikzee since the 14th century. In 1374 it is known that Hughe Muloc Symon Mathijsz. was a gate keeper in Zierikzee. In 1407 Claes Muloxz. and in 1416 Jacop Claes Muloxz were registered as gate keepers of Zierikzee. In Reygersberch's chronicle of Zeeland is noted that in 1528 'In the same year a ship came from Ziericzee in the Wielinghe in, and its captain was named Anthonis Muloc. He had been at sea with his ship for a year and a half. The captain was the year after with his ship the Brandaris which had burned earlier and was repaired in Zeeland on Aremuen and went to Spain, but never came back. '
Although the family Mulock still continued in the family names Mulock Houwer, Mulock van der Vlies Bik and Mulock Yzerman, the family itself became extinct in 1800 with Janna Mulock, who died in July of that year. In Zierikzee there existed in the 16th until the 18th century two families Mulock next to eachother which had however the same source. The one, the civil branch, can be called the real family Mulock; the other, the patrician branch, had accepted the name Mulock from mother's side. Neeltje Mulock (died 1604) married Cornelis Willemse de Keijser (1550-1623). From this came the family of Mr. Cornelis Mulock (1708-1775) who married Isabella Oostdijck (1710-1771).
