Family Oostdijck

The genealogy Oostdijck begins with the in 1494 deceased Jan Jansen Oostdijck, mayor of Goes. The Oostdijcks have been split in three branches and have become extinct with Johannes Oostdijck, Hendrik Oostdijck (1713-1787) and Michiel Oostdijck (1718-1792). In the middle op the genealogy stands Nicolaas Michielse Oostdijck (1563-1635). He was master of Tolsende and Iersicke, dean of the crossbow 1584, town bailiff 1596, town council member 1592-1626, orphanage manager 1621-1625, land commissioner 1604-1616, church overseeer 1611, elder 1613, all in Goes, bailiff of the States of Zeeland and South -Beveland and receiver of the common means in Goes. He married several times and had seventeen children. Eventually he went over from Catholic to the Protestants.

Family Coat of Arms
According to a copper engraving, Nicolaas Michielse Oostdijck (1563-1635) carried an anchor with the arms upwards, on both sides halfway the shaft  a Jacob's shell with the round side forward. The insignia above the coat of arms show an angle with a palm branch. In the coat of arms the tradition is carried forth of Jan Janse Oostdijck (died 1494), mayor of Goes, who made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem: the anchor and the shell remind of the sea trip, and the St. Jacob's shell especially of the pilgrimage . The angel with palm branch reminds to the Christian faith, triomphant and bringing peace.
